ASCC Federal Rally #45 Sapphire Coast 2012

ACT Branch chose a magnificent site for the 2012 Rally - the historic Coolagatta Estate at Shoalhaven Heads on the south coast of NSW, known as the Sapphire Coast.  This area was settled in 1822 by Alexander Berry. Berry obtained a grant of 10,000 acres and 100 convicts to build his settlement in the foothills of a mountain named “Coolangatta” .... an aboriginal word meaning ‘fine view’.  Our accommodation consisted of convict-built servants’ quarters, stables, blacksmith shop, plumber’s shop, harness room and cottages – all with suitably updated plumbing!!   Saturday concours was held at Kiama, adjacent to the lighthouse and blowhole.  Graham & Pauline Carson scooped the trophy pool with their superbly restored early Sapphire - C340014.  Our tours around the area included the Berry Markets, Cambewarra Mountain lookout, Kangaroo Valley & Hampton suspension bridge, Fitzroy Falls, lunch at the Burrawang Hotel and finally a walk on the Illawarra Fly.
