ASCC Presidents Report for September/October 2018

A warm Welcome once again fellow ASCC Members.

As I put pen to paper, I am reminded that we have a little less than 6 months to go before the Centenary Rally is held in Canberra next year, and many members are noticeably feeling the anticipation that is starting to build.

We have been getting some impressive turnouts to recent events, which will no doubt be featured later in the Magazine, and it's great to hear that our cars have made it onto the news and other media publications in SA recently.

Likewise, we have been working towards putting together some video footage to link up with the website, so keep an eye out for those coming additions.

Ian Barnett has been busy developing a new Car Badge for the Centenary Rally. The proto-type has been delivered, which looks very smart indeed, and the confirmed order has been placed. (Peter Hills is aiming to have a photo listed on the Website shortly.)  As a reminder, the badges will be numbered from 1-100, and personal ‘special number’ requests are being taken by Ian. The Board has decided that Numbers “1” and “100”, as the most notable numbers, will be withheld from sale, to be Auctioned off at the Rally to the highest bidder. The Car Badges will be available in due course, from Geoff Tuckwell in the spares department.

The NSW Branch is working on a selection of Apparel, sporting the Centenary Logo. This will comprise a Cotton ‘Chambray’ style shirt with the logo on the left breast, and option to have the Member's Name on the right breast. Also, a hat and polo shirt options are being considered.

A range of Centenary Posters has also been developed in two main styles.  One has a selection of models listed, ranging from the 1919 30hp through to the 1960 Star Sapphire. This has been developed into a range of sizes from large  Banners (1.8m tall) down to postcards. (A sample can now be seen on the website) These are a perfect way to be promoting the AS marque and our Club. The second style focuses upon singular models, covering a wide range of vehicles produced. We aim to have these available to the membership shortly. Details will be posted on the Website in due course.

** Rembember to check the Website for Updates on coming Events (and post amendments when required) **

This coming year, at the Centenary Rally Concours d’Elegance, the focus is on “the Commonwealth Cars” as photographed in front of Old Parliament House in the 1920’s.  Ian Handley, our Rally Co-ordinator, is keen to have a display reminiscent of this theme, and this also includes an invitation to don your favourite 1920’s Costumes.

Prizes have been proposed for the most flamboyant ladies, dapper gentlemen, and flamboyant beards and/or moustaches, so start fluffing those skirts and curling those whiskers !!!

Finally, we are still seeking the assistance of some enthusiastic members for the positions of Federal Secretary and Club Shop Manager. If you think that you have something to offer the Club in these areas, we would love to hear from you.   So, lot’s happening in the Club, and lot’s more coming up!  Until next time, Happy AS Motoring!
