May/June 2020

Hello and Welcome Everybody,

No doubt we are all getting a little tired of all of the Covid restrictions, yet, there may now be some light at the end of the tunnel. Australia being “the Lucky Country” I’m confident that most of us are feeling and realizing just how lucky we are in these troubled times, with some of our restrictions starting to lift, whilst many of our kindred abroad are still facing significant challenges.

Locally, the recent News is that, whilst we had to cancel the Renmark Federal Rally for 2020 (postponing it until 2021), necessity forced us to take a revolutionary approach to holding the Annual General Meeting. This year the AGM was held on a virtual platform, with members nominations and voting via email, and a conference call with an array of representatives convening the formal meeting. (The EGM was omitted)

Still standing are Greg Fereday (VP), Tony Carter (Treasurer), Cameron Wright and Alex Elliot, and myself. Although having not initially nominated, John Graham will stay on as an appointed Director.
Thanks to you all for your outstanding work, and your ongoing commitment.

Wayne Lander has stepped down, and I thank him for his contribution. Jenny Marshall has retired from the board after 5 years of service. I have no doubt that everyone will join me in thanking her for her service, and (perhaps un-noticed) the huge amount of work that she carried out behind the scenes. Well done Jenny!

There are still a few vacant positions within the ranks, with room for another voice or two on the board, as well as the Secretary position still open, so I invite Members to consider if you might have some valuable experience or skills to apply, or a little time to contribute to aid in the Club’s administration.

While the current social restrictions have quietened things down a lot, the Board will continue to convene monthly (and via email) to stay on top of the housekeeping.

Meanwhile, it appears that it may still be some time before normal activities, like regular Meetings and Car Shows, can be resumed. Thus, industrious enthusiasts are finding new ways to stay connected and support their organizations.

Vintage Tractor enthusiast John Tilling from Western Australia’s South West, and his mate Steve from South East Victoria had their Tractor show (that was scheduled for the middle of March) Cancelled !

Subsequently, they got together over the phone and have instigated the “Virtual Vintage Machinery Show”, to be held on the 20th and 21st of June 2020.

Meanwhile, ‘Shannons’, the Classic Vehicle Insurer that we will all be familiar with, are also holding a similar “Virtual Car Show” to help keep up the passion. On this site we are invited to upload a 30 second video of our car. Shannon’s will then select the best 60 videos which will be compiled into one full Feature Film.

But that’s not all !
Shannons also has the ‘Shannon’s Club’ – ‘Show ‘N’ Shine’. In this event we are invited to post a selection of photos of our cars. With the competition running from the 1st May until the 25th June 2020, entries are selected for weekly prises, as well as best in Category and best in Show, with significant prizes for both Individuals, and their Representative Club.

No doubt there may be other events starting to spring up. It certainly would be wonderful to see some of our beautiful cars shown off on these platforms, not just for our group, but to showcase our lovely vehicles to the broader community.

So, seeing as many of us had our lovely cars prepared for the (cancelled) Renmark Rally... ...Lets see them!
...Show off your Pride and Joy !
...Show them to the World !

Looking forward to catching up with you all once this crisis passes,
